On our fifth day of class we did post card extensions. I loved this project and was sad that I didn't get to finish it. Had I done it again I would have done it with a less intricate pattern... I would not recommend this postcard for an elementary student. One of the goals with this project was creating matching colors so that you could realistically 'extend' the picture. We used heavy watercolor paper and tempera paints. We learned about color mixing, matching the style, and using our own imagination. Because this was inspired by a famous artist, I think that this could be a good neo-rationalist art project.
Dr. Dan suggested that we could have our students do this with a postcard that they got from the museum, or with a picture printed from an online museum.
IDEA: I think that this activity would go along perfectly with a language arts lesson where you are extending the story, or writing a new ending. It can show students that some of the greatest ideas are extensions of someone else's great ideas.
We also talked about how there are so many different variations of every color.

I was astounded at the talent of some of my classmates. I really felt like they matched the colors and styles well.
