Print Making

I've decided that I love mixing colors! Because of this I loved print making! We experimented with a couple different types of print making. First we chose a couple colors and put them on our glass sheet and then began to mix it around with a roller.  Once we had the color we wanted, we rolled it onto a plastic sheet and set it aside to dry.

I decided that I liked the marbled look, so I decided to not mix mine in too much. I loved them!  I probably used a bit more paint than I needed to, so I dried them with a blow dryer.

We then cut shapes out of them to put on a  moistened 100% cotton paper and put them through a rolling press to get the paint onto the paper. It was a super neat activity.

My favorite part was the color mixing, but I was super impressed by the final products of some of my classmates.

Another really fun project that we did was etching into styrophome for print making. you have to etch everything in backwards, but then you can put paint on it and use it like a stamp.

This would be a super cute idea to do around Mothers-day or Christmas.

I think it would be really neat to give a historical background on the history of printing http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_printing or the History of Printmaking http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Printmaking for a Social Studies lesson.

Here are a TON  of different printmaking ideas and lesson plans for an elementary classroom:
