Visual Metaphor

I felt strongly about the visual metaphor I came up with. I believe that it was partially inspired by listening to Dr. Brad Wilcox's BYU devotional "His Grace is Sufficient". http://speeches.byu.edu/reader/reader.php?id=13436

The visual metaphor that rang true to me was that of a teacher being a musician. Our students will come in all shapes and sizes like various instruments. Some will play their own varied tune. As a teacher we must help the violins be the best violins they can be and the flutes be the best flutes they can be. We cannot expect the flute to sound like a harp, nor can we make the flute turn into a harp. Each student is an individual that brings his or her individuality to the classroom to create the beautiful music of learning. Having students create visual metaphors for what they are learning is a great way to assess their understanding!
